TUAC Chief Economists to meet to develop response to the crisis as economic situation worsens

27/02/2009

Chief Economists from TUAC affiliates, global union partners and several of the non-OECD G20 union centres are to meet at the OECD in Paris on 9 – 11 March 2009. The meeting will prepare the next steps of the global union response to the economic crisis and in particular draw-up statements to the G20 Crisis London Summit on 2 April and the G8/G14 Labour and  Social Summit in Rome on 29 March. The meeting takes place as the OECD has published its figures for GDP in the final quarter of 2008. The figures show a staggering contraction of the GDP in the OECD area - 6 percent at an annual rate. These are the worst figures since the OECD began collecting statistics.
