TUAC Meeting on Colombia’s Accession to the OECD

03/03/2015

On 3rd March 2015, TUAC organised a meeting on Colombia’s Accession to the OECD, attended by trade unionists from the three Colombian trade union confederations, together with representatives from the OECD Departments of Employment, Labour and Social Affairs and Public Governance.

The Colombian delegation included the Presidents of the CGT – Confederación General del Trabajo and the CTC – Confederación de Trabajores de Colombia, as well as the Director of the International Relations Department of the CUT - Central Unitaria de Trabajadores de Colombia.

In the context of grave concerns about violence against trade unionists and anti-union practices in Colombia, the Colombian trade unionists presented their views to the OECD about the situation on-the-ground, and the possible future Accession of Colombia to the OECD.

They also shared their experience of the failed US-Colombia Labour Action Plan and the limitations of its  monitoring mechanism.

TUAC will issue its position on Colombia’s Accession process  the following week, based on the meeting’s discussions.
