A trade union delegation of the international trade union organisations and G20 affiliates of the ITUC and TUAC met President Sarkozy on 13 December at the Elysée Palace to discuss the priorities for the French G20 and G8 presidencies in 2011.

In response to the unions’ call for the G20 to confront the global jobs crisis, President Sarkozy re-affirmed his “determination to put the social dimension of globalisation at the heart of the French G20 presidency” and his wish “that the G20 puts forward a real social agenda with a focus on employment and training”. A key part of the discussion was how to ensure that a G20 Employment Ministers’ meeting has an impact on the agenda of economic coordination in the G20.
