TUAC Plenary meeting debates union response to economic crisis and strengthening ties with Emerging Economy unions

14/12/2010

The TUAC Plenary Session met in Paris on 14 December following consultations with the OECD and President Sarkozy on the G20 agenda held on 13 December. In addition to affiliating the Israel trade union centre HISTADRUT and approving a partnership agreement with the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU), the Plenary agreed the strategic lines of work for TUAC for 2011: working with the ITUC on the G20 agenda on employment, ensuring that the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises are strengthened in the 2011 update, and developing trade union thinking on a different model of growth coming out of the crisis. In addition to the participation of trade union leaders from TUAC affiliates, the ITUC and Global Unions, the meeting also included leaders from Argentina, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Africa. TUAC will develop in 2011 a more structured relationship with the Emerging Economy trade unions so as to facilitate their participation in OECD activities.
